Adirondack Summit Journal

The goal of this piece was to design a narrative that explores type as a voice, through rhythm, pacing and consideration of user experience. In the summer of 2013, I spent five weeks with a group of seven people, hiking all 46 High Peaks. This book is meant to be an interpretation of my summit journal where details of each climb was recorded. My aim was to capture my voice and personality while illustrating the grueling yet incredibly rewarding experience of being on the trail. Personal photos were paired with the journal entries and I used my personal handwriting for call-outs. I wanted to avoid the scrap book feeling so I chose strong sans serif and slab serif fonts and a monochromatic color theme on each page.
